Dog Memorial Ideas

When we lose a dog, a huge hole is left in its place. Those furry loves gave us unconditional love and a companionship you may never have as deeply with any human. Allowing yourself time to grieve is important, but we’ve also found that a physical marker in some way may help ease the heartache.

Here’s some memorial ideas we’ve tried (or friends have tried) that you may want to give a go:

Keepsakes & Physical Markers

  • Memory Treasure Box:

Keep your dog's collar, favorite toy, photos, and other tchotchkes in one place.

  • Memorial Garden:.

Plant a tree, shrub, or flowers in your pup’s memory, and place an engraved stone, plaque, or wind chimes in the garden. Maybe position it in a spot they loved to frequent?

  • Paw Print Art:

Put an impression of their paw print in a frame, on a garden stone (add to memorial garden), or a piece of art.

  • Custom Artwork:

Commission a custom portrait, canvas print, or other artwork.

  • Jewelry:

Have a piece of jewelry made, such as a necklace or bracelet, that incorporates their ashes, name, or a paw print. Maybe incorporate dog tag into the piece. You can find artists on Etsy that will customize something for you.

  • Tattoo:

Have a tattoo done with their name, a drawing or noseprint of them to keep their memory close, literally.

Community & Charitable Acts

  • Donate to a Shelter:

Make a donation to an animal shelter or rescue organization in your dog's name.

  • Write an Obituary:

Share your pet's story and memories by writing a heartfelt obituary and posting it online.

  • Dedicate a Day:

Set aside a specific day, such as their birthday or the anniversary of their passing, to celebrate their memory.
